Restorative Practices and System Alignment: High School Graduation Strategy Spotlight
High School Graduation Playbook: Strategy Spotlight
Overview
High school graduation is a vital step toward economic stability, independence and opportunity. A diploma opens doors to college, career training and jobs with upward mobility, but earning a diploma means more than completing coursework. Students must leave high school equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to navigate whatever comes next. Communities can support graduation outcomes by pairing rigorous academics with career exploration, real-world learning, and strong support for mental health and basic needs.
Graduating ready for college or a career is one of the most important steps toward economic mobility, but not every student gets the same support to get there. In San Antonio, UP Partnership leads the Future Ready Bexar County Plan, bringing together more than 100 partners committed to ensuring 70% of young people enroll in a degree or credential program by 2030. Since 2011, Bexar County’s graduation rate has climbed from 84% to 91%. Through restorative justice practices, near-peer mentorship and targeted support for boys and young men of color, the partnership is keeping more students engaged and on track. With the right relationships and supports in place, more young people in Bexar County are crossing the finish line.
